The Signature Grill has a loyal crowd of “regulars”, including tenants and condo owners within the Riverfront Complex, hockey fans who make a meal at the Grill part of their pre- and post-game ritual, and others that have discovered the great food and riverfront views and make it their destination to begin and end an evening downtown.
Given the restaurant’s intimate setting and size, its ambience on any particularly evening can vary dramatically depending on what may be scheduled at the restaurant, what’s going on at Joe Louis or downtown, or whether or not the “big game” is on TV.
Although the restaurant is consistently reviewed as a four-star restaurant, we occasionally get a negative review. In most cases, this is the result of a guest coming in encountering something entirely different from what they’ve heard or expected — for example, a couple coming in for a quiet, intimate dinner making a reservation prior to a home hockey game.
So here’s a couple of suggestions to make sure your visit to Signature is an enjoyable one:
- Check the website. The website has an interactive calendar feature that lists dinner specials, as well as other events and happenings. “Today’s events” and “upcoming events” are also displayed on the left side of every page.
- If you’re looking to enjoy an evening of great dining and casual conversation with family, friends or business associates, don’t make a reservation for immediately before the start of a home hockey game, Thursday nights during karaoke, or the evening of a big sporting event(Monday Night Football or the Superbowl, for example). Those evenings are crowded, loud and may offer up a different menu that you might be expecting.
The ambience of the restaurant on any particular evening is a direct reflection of the crowd. If there is a home hockey game, it may feel like a sports bar. On Karaoke night, a nightclub.
Regardless of the evening, however, one of the comments we hear most often (other than comments about the view) from first time visitors is how diverse, friendly and welcoming the staff and other patrons are. In the end, that may be the true “signature” of the restaurant, and a big reason why people keep coming back.

One of the best reasons to visit the Signature Grill is its easy access to all of the major downtown Detroit sports and entertainment hotspots. Did you know that the Grill and the Riverfront Towers complex has a heated private walkway to Joe Louis Arena and the Joe Louis People Mover Station? Red Wing fans have known this for years — the restaurant is packed for Red Wing home games, guests enjoy free parking if they join us for dinner and we provide passes to return to the Grill for a post-game night cap as they wait for traffic to clear.
The private walkway to the People Mover allow you quick, safe and convenient access to all Detroit has to offer — the Fox Theatre, the Renaissance Center, Greektown, Ford Field and Comerica Park, to name just a few. Make the Signature Grill your gateway to your next visit downtown. Free, secure parking, a four-star dining experience, expansive views of the river, and convenient access to all the downtown venues. What’s not to like?
